The View From Someone Else's Window - "Somewhere in France"
The View from Someone Else’s Window
I often think about how many of the people I love live very far away from me. People I might only see a handful of times in my life.
Last year, when my father began moving from Chicago to France, he started sending me photos of his new surroundings; simple snapshots, glimpses of what he was seeing each day.
Something about those images ignited a passion in me. I picked up my brushes and began painting landscapes, a subject matter I’d rarely engaged with before. Each scene brought me closer to him, like I could step through the canvas and share his view for a moment...
…and as I painted, I thought of all the other views, and all of the other landscapes my scattered loved ones were seeing.
Thus, a collection was born: The View from Someone Else’s Window—paintings that bridge the distance, even if just for a moment.
This particular painting I have named “Somewhere in France” It was the first from this inspired series and holds a special place in my heart. It was promptly purchased and will soon hang in actual France.
